You decide today for tomorrow? You have destroyed tomorrow.
Allow the tomorrow to have its own being. Let it COME in its own way! Let it bring its own gifts.Resolution means you will allow only this and you will not allow that. Resolution means you would like the sun to rise in the west and not in the east. If it rises in the east, you will not open your windows; you will keep your windows open to the west.
What is resolution? Resolution is struggle. Resolution is ego. Resolution is saying, “I cannot live spontaneously.” And if you cannot live spontaneously, you don’t live at all — you only pretend.
Resolution also means you are not able to resolve issues. You get into resolution because issues are not easy on you. You say “I want to leave smoking next year!” – So leave it. Why make resolution for it. Because smoking is tough to leave you move into resolution mode. The moment you make resolutions, you already started your New Year with a war in your mind. Now you have created a situation where if your resolution fails then it leaves a mark on your mind. You are already set yourself up for failure and friction.
Let me make another point clear. Whatever you want to do New Year – Have clear intent of it but don’t make resolution. Intent means you will make effort to change or execute whatever you have planned but you are not worried about results. Intent means you will celebrate both failure and success equally well. Resolution means you are not ready for anything other than success.
So let only one resolution be there: I will never make any resolutions. Drop all resolutions! Let life be a natural spontaneity. The only golden rule is that there are no golden rules.
Love and lots of it Dear ones
Happy New Year!

From My last year post! : http://sureshg.wordpress.com/2006/12/29/new-year-resolution-means-you-already-destroyed-your-new-year/

So I have a question about this. I like spontaneity and deciding about tomorrow tomorrow. But sometimes people get annoyed because for example, I didn’t want to commit to go painting outdoors tomorrow until I wake up tomorrow and see how the weather is and whetherI feel more like painting in the studio than outdoors. Is that different? I don’t make New Year resolutions anymore. Where did you take this gorgeous photo? Happy New Year!
your question really perfect!
Intent is that you respond to your heart, resolution is you are fixed and doesn’t allow yourself to flow. so you can have a intent to paint but if you don’t like to paint now then you move on to sing a song or dance, where as when you make a resolution you force yourself to follow a path.
for artists to flow is very important. when you start flowing without any “should ” and “must” then creative juices tend to flow and mingle with Divine!
Happy New Year Jana, May you inspire more people this year!
If followed practically (which is difficult in this materialistic world) – your resolution of ‘take it as it comes- without bothing about tomorrow’ and as you say “Let life be a natural spontaneity” —- I agree to what you say – completely and wholly. We are all in the quest of spiritualism and reach that divine stage. However, there is bread to earn and that involves interaction with materialistic world. Though I am not denying that it is imposssible. I do meditation morning and evening and while I am at it I feel I am in heaven – happiness / peace which can not be explained.
However, When I come out of it, I am back to running around in this practical world , day -to-day life problems – where most of the things does not happen in time or meet with our basic expectations.
BUT, if you are and tryly are in this path – really you are on the right path in achieving nirvana.
