Hi,
that was a neat write up. summarises almost all one needs to know on forgiveness. It is very difficult at times. but its so releiving at the end of it. The thought of avenging someone only tends to make us so bitter and unhealthy within. Forgiveness is so much for our won selves than for the other that we need to practice and make it part of us..leaving out the feeling of having done a self righteous deed though.

Thank you for the wonderful post. Yes, the quality and the capacity to forgive is one of the most beautiful flowers of the human soul. That's so indeed. However, while forgivingness expresses our attitude towards other and reveals our comprehension of ourselves (marks our ability to recognize ourselves in other), is it possible to forgive oneself? Forgiveness is something we receive as the most precious gift.
Thus the picture becomes the interesting. While we all one in spiritual sense, and we all rejoice over the same flower of the forgiveness, we desperately need one other for we could take that wonder flower to our homes. Prayer/meditation helps us recognize the truth, but we need the fellowship in the concrete for to share the divine light.

This is very touching indeed. I'd like you to know that after reading this post I was able to medidate deeply for a good 15 mins just by using this story as the center of my thoughts. Fave line: "The quality and the capacity to forgive is one of the most beautiful flowers of the human soul." Truly, if at least 40% of the world's population is like her, world peace wouldn't be that unachievable.

Beautiful article suresh. One line there says...

It's not easy to forgive.

I wonder why.

One possible reason may well be that we may be associating forgiveness with obligation, duty, righteousness etc that you have highlighted to avoid. Once we manage to disassociate all those ideas, it would be a lot easier.

Another may be the assumption that not me but the other is responsible for what has happened to me (...and therefore he is to be avenged...). Probably the more we unlearn this assumption the easier it becomes to forgive ;)

This post sure was an inspiring encouragement! I would be curious to hear any other ideas from readers on how forgiving might become more natural and easier.
