Former India Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed by Militants. Few weeks back his daughter did unimaginable thing, she met her Father’s murderer and she took the sweetest revenge possible, she forgive her.

It’s never happened before in politics. Politics means another word for revenge and ugly game of taking another fellow down,

But then there are exceptions and there is hope,  I usually don’t write about politicians but then once in a while event happens in such a way that you need to share.

remember: one who forgives is forgiven. The quality and the capacity to forgive is one of the most beautiful flowers of the human soul. Revenge is ugly. mean; it is falling to the lowest. To forgive is to rise so high. The more one becomes capable of forgiving, the more one’s heart expands, one’s consciousness grows bigger. The day one can forgive all and everything is the day when god meets man, man meets god.

So let this quality of forgiveness become your very centre. Don’t forgive in the sense that you are obliging. Don’t forgive as a duty, because then it creates the ego, and a very subtle ego, which is dangerous. more dangerous than revenge itself. The holy ego is the worst possible ego in the world. So don’t be righteous. Take it with ease; to forgive should become natural, and then it is really a benediction.

Meditation is art of forgiving oneself, Meditation is knowing all is one so there is nothing to forgive and nothing to take revenge on.

Cheers

Suresh

  1. [...] [But then of course there are exceptions which I believe is extremely important to not miss simply taking for granted - instead we should really cherish and highlight them for example the amazing case of Rajiv Gandhi’s daughter] [...]

Beautiful article suresh. One line there says…

    It’s not easy to forgive.

    I wonder why.

One possible reason may well be that we may be associating forgiveness with obligation, duty, righteousness etc that you have highlighted to avoid. Once we manage to disassociate all those ideas, it would be a lot easier.

Another may be the assumption that not me but the other is responsible for what has happened to me (…and therefore he is to be avenged…). Probably the more we unlearn this assumption the easier it becomes to forgive ;)

This post sure was an inspiring encouragement! I would be curious to hear any other ideas from readers on how forgiving might become more natural and easier.

This is very touching indeed. I’d like you to know that after reading this post I was able to medidate deeply for a good 15 mins just by using this story as the center of my thoughts. Fave line: “The quality and the capacity to forgive is one of the most beautiful flowers of the human soul.” Truly, if at least 40% of the world’s population is like her, world peace wouldn’t be that unachievable.

indeed it is beautiful write up and great humanitarian act but what is all hype why so much of doubts created by various people whether she met her in jail or not so many contradicting statements came. what is wrong is she has gone she has gone thats all why all this should be kept secret? dont understand this dirty politics.
all lines and words of your post carry so much they can not be measured in terms of any things simply I adore your post thats all

Thank you for the wonderful post. Yes, the quality and the capacity to forgive is one of the most beautiful flowers of the human soul. That’s so indeed. However, while forgivingness expresses our attitude towards other and reveals our comprehension of ourselves (marks our ability to recognize ourselves in other), is it possible to forgive oneself? Forgiveness is something we receive as the most precious gift.
Thus the picture becomes the interesting. While we all one in spiritual sense, and we all rejoice over the same flower of the forgiveness, we desperately need one other for we could take that wonder flower to our homes. Prayer/meditation helps us recognize the truth, but we need the fellowship in the concrete for to share the divine light.

    Hi,
that was a neat write up. summarises almost all one needs to know on forgiveness. It is very difficult at times. but its so releiving at the end of it. The thought of avenging someone only tends to make us so bitter and unhealthy within. Forgiveness is so much for our won selves than for the other that we need to practice and make it part of us..leaving out the feeling of having done a self righteous deed though.
